On or around September 23, I received Interstate's responses to my requests for production and requests for admission. That was when the issue became clearer to me.

They said the deficiency amount "may be incorrect" and that Christy was working on it.

That brought another level of confusion. I had already received a lawsuit, supported by the president and CEO's verification, saying three vehicles had been repossessed, sold, and the proceeds applied to what I owed. Now the amount they were suing me for might be incorrect.

The first image that came into my mind was some 1950s scene: a room full of people smoking cigarettes, paper account ledgers everywhere, and somebody sitting there trying to make the numbers make sense. Trying to make it walk and talk, if you will.

Even I understood the basic idea of a spreadsheet. You put an input in one box, it changes another box, and the figures build off each other. I was thinking, how is somebody still "working on" this number in a credit union in 2026, after the lawsuit has already been filed?

I couldn't understand it. I still had questions about it.

They also admitted that the 1998 Ford and the Cadillac had never been repossessed. Those were the vehicles I had been talking about from the beginning.

Reading those responses beside the original lawsuit was what made the contradiction concrete for me.

## Documents and dates

The discovery responses are dated September 22; Gregory recalls receiving and reviewing them on or around September 23\. His September 23 correspondence describes the repossession admissions and the statement that the deficiency may be incorrect. His imagined accounting-room scene is a personal reaction, not evidence of Interstate's actual working process.
