About Archive 001

Archive 001 follows one civil case as it develops through pleadings, discovery, correspondence, court orders, outside oversight, and the documentary record created along the way.

Rather than reconstructing the story after the fact, the archive is being assembled contemporaneously. Its organizing principle is provenance: what record existed, when it existed, what it said, and how later records relate to it.

The archive does not ask the reader to accept a narrator's conclusion in place of the documents. Its purpose is to make the chronology and primary record legible enough that readers can examine the material themselves.

Archive 001 is part of a broader Human Archive project concerned with how people move through consequential periods of ordinary life and how those experiences can be preserved without reducing them to a retrospective summary.

Follow and support the work

Archive 001 and its primary documentary record are intended to remain freely readable. Readers who want to know when meaningful new material is added can Follow the Archive by email.

The Human Archive also requires time and resources to preserve records, produce documentary work, learn languages, travel, conduct interviews, and build future archives. Readers who want to help sustain that work will be able to Support the Archive voluntarily. Support does not purchase access to the primary record and does not change the archive's editorial standards.
